Work and depression

At least one in five of us will have depression to some degree at some point in our lives. That’s a lot of the workforce!

Work is very important for all of us. It provides benefits such as

  • Social identity and status
  • Social contact
  • A means of structuring and occupying time
  • A sense of personal achievement

However depression can make it difficult for us to do our jobs or even to stay in work. On top of that, the economic downturn is causing people to become depressed or anxious for the first time. Job insecurity, redundancy and economic uncertainty is not good for your mental health.
